Best Food Storage Containers for Meal Prep
There are few things more satisfying than opening your fridge to see it stocked full of homemade and delicious meals – ready to be reheated and enjoyed by your hungry household. With Easyfeast, your dedicated personal chef will cook in your kitchen and store the meals prepared for you in whatever Tupperware containers you already have (we’re flexible like that!) What’s important is that you have airtight containers – this is the secret to keeping your meals fresh! – and that you have a lot of them in a variety of sizes. If you need to stock up on containers or are looking to upgrade, we’re here to help you make a good selection. We’ve tried a lot of Tupperware (and we mean a lot), so we can help spare you the trial and error. Here we’ll share our top pick as well as other items to consider adding to your collection.
Our favorite: Rubbermaid Brilliance Food Storage Containers.
What you’ll need:
- Large Containers (8+ cups): get 4-5 in glass or plastic
- Medium Containers (4-6 cups): get 3-5 in glass or plastic
- Small Containers (1/2 cup to 3 cups): get 2-4 in glass or plastic
Here’s why we love them:-
-Beautiful design: These containers are sleek, transparent and modular. They’ll make your fridge look beautiful and organized.
-Best lids: The lids snap closed to create a truly airtight, leak-proof seal, keeping your meals fresh longer. They’re more durable than typical Tupperware lids, which often warp or rip over time. Plus, the universal design means you’ll spend less time searching for the right lid! Finally, they’re microwave-safe – just unsnap the seal for ventilation.
-Glass or Plastic: These come in either glass or BPA-free plastic, and each has its own benefits. Glass is sturdy, safe and beautiful, while plastic is lightweight and won’t chip.
-Microwave, Freezer and Dishwasher Safe: These containers are perfect for popping right from the fridge to the microwave or freezer for easy reheating and storing. They’re dishwasher safe for quick cleanup, and the glass containers can even go into the oven – ideal for reheating!
Our chefs can get very creative in how they’ll store your meals(!), but it really does help to have the right quantities, so be sure to buy enough. Feel good in knowing that you’re storing your meals each week in reusable products, rather than single-use plastic from takeout or delivery!
Honor Roll…
These brands each have their advantages and, though we don’t love them as much as the Rubbermaid Brilliance, they’re also worth considering:
- Snapware Total Solution Storage Containers
- Pyrex Simply Store Food Storage Set
- Glasslock Assorted Container Set
Other items to consider adding to your food storage collection:
- Silicone Stashers. These are reusable silicone bags to replace disposable plastic baggies. They’re dishwasher safe, though they take some effort to maintain. (Our approach is to run them through the dishwasher, then use a paper towel or a small wand – the kind you’d use to clean a straw – to get out any residue.) Get 6+ in assorted sizes. If these aren’t your thing, then just make sure to have snack-sized and gallon-sized Ziploc bags on hand. (Pro tip: when you store washed produce in these, throw in a piece of paper towel to absorb moisture; it will help your food last longer.)
- Mason Jars. These are a really charming option for storing sauces, dressing and dips. The tight seal lets you shake your dressings vigorously without leaking. They’re transparent and really cute! We recommend getting the 2-cup size with a screw on lid.
- Produce Keeper. This is a great option for storing freshly washed lettuce, if you’d prefer to avoid using single-use gallon size Ziploc baggies for salad storage.
- Bee’s Wrap. These are a reusable alternative to plastic wrap. They’re also beautiful!
Regarding leftovers…
If you plan to take any leftovers with you to work or school for lunch, our favorite Tupperware also comes in these easy grab and go plastic Meal Prep Containers. Just keep in mind they’re relatively small containers. You can pair these with a set of to-go dressing and sauce containers like these.
